Urban Air Mobility

Urban Air Mobility

Overview

Urban air mobility and the low-altitude economy combine piloted and unmanned aircraft to support passenger transport, logistics, inspection, and public-service missions close to the ground. While opportunities are expanding, successful delivery requires more than purchasing aircraft, including airspace permissions, infrastructure, operational routines, and safety governance must advance together.

Sunway supports overseas stakeholders—including public agencies, airports, logistics providers, and operators—by connecting them with China-based eVTOL and industrial UAV manufacturers, subsystem suppliers, and digital command-and-control platforms. Our focus is on mapping overseas existing scenario cases to proven product and manufacturing readiness, avoiding dependence on concepts that cannot transition into stable operations.

Because many low-altitude technologies draw directly from China’s NEV and advanced manufacturing strengths—battery engineering, electric propulsion, lightweight materials, sensing, and control electronics— we can help identify suitable partners for propulsion units, energy-storage systems, flight-control computers, sensors, and structural components. This reduces the risk of assembling fleets that cannot be certified, maintained, or scaled in real-world conditions.

Project design typically begins with a defined mission scope, clear operating boundaries, and a staged infrastructure plan. Local operators work with aviation authorities on permissions and day-to-day execution, while OEMs and subsystem partners provide training, maintenance discipline, and technical support as the corridor or fleet grows.

Case Study

Planning for low-altitude networks in coastal metropolitan regions seeking integrated “air-ground” solutions for emergency response, short-distance passenger transport, and infrastructure inspection often face fragmented supply, limited local integration experience, and the need to align regulators, municipal agencies, and commercial operators.

Sunway can help structure phased programmes that combine passenger eVTOL aircraft with industrial UAVs for inspection and data capture, coordinated through a unified command layer and initial vertiport sites with charging capacity. Early focus is placed on safety concepts, redundancy, and maintenance routines that match local operational capability.

As utilisation increases, the network can expand site by site, with local stakeholders managing airspace coordination and daily service, while aircraft and subsystem partners refine hardware, software, and training systems to maintain stable operations at higher flight frequency.
